VocaLink's central switch operation has a secure telecommunications link to member host systems of many types and sizes, and gateway services to VISA and MasterCard. The system is backed up by an overnight settlement process (settling in excess of up to £430 million daily) and full management information.
New peaks in volume continue to be achieved for the number of daily, weekly and monthly transactions managed by the VocaLink central switch. New developments are planned to continue this outstanding growth. This will accommodate added functionality at ATMs (e.g. mobile phone top-ups and the move to smart card technology).
