The VocaLink Transaction Switching Platform

The VocaLink transaction switching platform is one of the largest and busiest in the world. It handles around 3 billion real-time transactions a year not only enabling cash withdrawal at over 62,000 ATMs in the UK but allowing UK debit and credit card holders to make payments and cash withdrawals in over 210 countries. The switching platform also processes transactions made in the UK by overseas cardholders. More recently the platform has begun to enable new types of transactions such as mobile phone top ups at ATMs.  It has remained 100% available for over 5 years and is the means by which bank customers can use any ATM in the UK and almost any ATM in the world.
