Direct Credits, or credit transfers, are automated payments from a sender’s account directly into the beneficiary’s nominated bank account. In the UK, VocaLink provides the processing services that support the Bacs Direct Credit Service*. VocaLink has provided the Bacs Direct Credit for Bacs Payment Schemes Ltd since 1971.

Bacs Direct Credit touches millions of lives every day. In the UK, over 90% of salaries are paid this way. That’s over 20 million salary payments a month processed by the VocaLink payment platform. Most state benefits are also paid this way and in 2006, a total of 2.1 billion such payments were made by Bacs Direct Credit. The VocaLink infrastructure is scaled to handle the continued growth of this vital service.
