VocaLink has been delighted to sponsor intrepid young sailor Mike Perham (known as SailMike), in his record-breaking attempt to circumnavigate the globe single-handed.
SailMike set off from Portmouth's Gunwharf Quays at 11.00am on Saturday 15 November 2008, and has since travelled over 30,000 miles to cross the finish line at 09.47am on 27 August 2009. This makes him the youngest ever person to sail single-handed around the globe.
Mike returned to Gunwharf Quays for a celebratory homecoming at 11.00am on Saturday 29 August.
When Mike from Potters Bar in Hertfordshire set off, he was aged 16, and turned 17 in March of this year. He also holds the record for the youngest person to sail single-handed across the Atlantic, a record he broke in January 2007 at the age of 14.
