As the infrastructure behind the LINK scheme, the
VocaLink ATM switch is the busiest in the world. It switches over
3.2 billion card-initiated transactions annually, operating at over
99.9% availability. It connects financial institutions, the post
office, mobile phone operators and independent ATM deployers.
LINK has gained consumers' trust with its nationwide network.
There are now 130 million LINK-enabled UK debit and ATM cards in
circulation. More recently, through EAPS - the alliance of European
debit card schemes - the LINK ATM network opened all 63,000 UK cash
machines to cards within the German card scheme (more than 92
million) operated by the Zentraler Kreditausschuss (German Banking
Community).
Similarly our agreement with the Pulse network allows Discover and Diners
Club International cardholders to use LINK ATMs without
having to go through an international provider.
We provide a gateway service to VISA and MasterCard and
connectivity to China Union Pay accounts.
We enable over 30,000 individual Post Office counters, the
largest branch network in Europe, to introduce and support a wide
range of basic banking transactions.
We're proud that our switching platform underpins such an
extensive range of services. But we also know there's no room for
complacency.
So we're continually raising standards, making sure that
capacity levels always exceed peak demand by healthy margins.
